Water Damage/Flood
Water Damage / Flooding - The HVA identifies water damage and flooding as high-risk incidents that have a probability of impacting the Health System. Most CFVHS facilities are not in flood zones, but the possibility of flooded streets or bridges directly impacts our patients and staff.
MITIGATION:
Ensure new construction is built with flooding considering
PREPAREDNESS:
Maintenance Engineering
Survey all facilities for water damage or flooding threat.
Maintain emergency supplies such as sandbags, Visqueen, and barriers.
RESPONSE:
Administrator on Call
Activate Incident Command.
Assemble IMT to plan strategy and form a CFVHS timetable
The Incident Command
Monitor National Weather Service and other resources for flooding updates
Assess incident impact on health system operations.
Determine the necessity to curtail services, cancel procedures or close facilities
Establish contact with the County Emergency Operations Center
Maintenance Engineering
Survey all facilities for water damage or flooding threat.
Sandbag low-lying doors and windows.
Take necessary measures in accordance with departmental plans to maintain utilities.
Make necessary emergency repairs.
Assign personnel to make continuous rounds.
Report all problems and/or damage to the Incident Command.
Central Supply
Make available emergency supplies as required
Advise vendors of local conditions
Maintain liaison with vendors for emergency replacement supplies.
Advise departments on the use of blankets for absorbing water.
Healthplex
Be prepared to execute the Staff/Family Housing Plan if required.
Managers
Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff
Be prepared to extend shifts
Be prepared to manage staff staying on site.
Maintain an emergency kit appropriate to the department
Constantly assess managed areas, patients, and staff well-being.
Report any damage or injuries to the HCC.
Staff
Maintain a “Go” bag in accordance with this plan.
Be prepared to work extended shifts
Be prepared to remain on site overnight
Be prepared to come in early or to stay late.
Assist patients and visitors
Elevate and cover equipment to protect from leaks or flooding
Medical Staff
Check in and follow directions from the Medical Care Branch Director as required.
