Hurricane
Hurricane - Hurricanes are a high-risk probability in the county and the region serviced by CFVHS. While the facilities are capable of withstanding 90 mph winds, the health system must be ready to support the community during a hurricane.

PREPAREDNESS: (Constantly to >96 hours from landfall)
Food and Nutrition
Ensure an adequate supply of all food and staples on hand, especially paper products.
Be prepared to serve meals to additional staff members and families of patients sheltered in the hospital.
RESPONSE: (<96 hours from landfall)
Administrator on Call
Activate Incident Command.
Assemble IMT to plan strategy and form a CFVHS timetable
The Incident Command
Monitor National Weather Service and other resources for weather updates
Determine the necessity to curtail services, cancel procedures or close facilities
Establish contact with the County Emergency Operations Center
Be prepared to relocate the Day Care Center to the Rehabilitation Center auditorium. Coordinate volunteers and non-essential personnel to provide child care services for other children of on-duty staff members, if needed.
Contact radio and television stations to announce expectations for non-critical personnel.
Maintenance Engineering
Secure all outdoor equipment
Survey the facilities, including roof tops, and secure or remove any items that could be affected by high winds.
Check to make sure all roof drains and ground catch basins are open.
Obtain additional emergency supplies such as batteries, flashlights, extension cords, Visqueen, and temporary lights.
Top off generator fuel tanks.
Tape large windows where needed.
Sandbag low-lying doors and windows.
Take necessary measures in accordance with departmental plans to maintain utilities.
Maintain full coverage of personnel before, during and after the storm.
Make necessary emergency repairs during the storm.
Assign personnel to make continuous rounds during the storm.
Report all problems and/or damage to the Incident Command.
Central Supply
Maintain emergency supplies including flashlights, batteries, and water.
Assign adequate personnel to issue emergency supplies to department representatives.
Inventory medical supplies with an emphasis on selected I.V.s and sets, cast and padding material, surgical bandages and dressings.
Order an over stock of crucial supplies such as syringes, needles, IV fluids, sterile water, hand cleaning items and disposable items.
Maintain liaison with vendors for emergency replacement supplies.
Release extra supplies to departments such as pillows, hand washing items, and sterile water.
Advise departments on the use of blankets for absorbing water coming in through windows.
Healthplex
Be prepared to execute the Staff/Family Housing Plan
Managers
Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, and staff
Advise staff to fill their car's gas tank
Be prepared to extend shifts
Be prepared to manage staff staying on site.
Maintain an emergency kit appropriate to the department (flashlights, blankets, batteries), downtime forms.
Designate staff to report in immediately following the storm
Constantly assess managed areas, patients, and staff well-being.
Report any damage or injuries to the HCC.
Staff
Maintain a “Go” bag in accordance with this plan.
Be prepared to work extended shifts
Be prepared to remain on site overnight
Be prepared to come in early or to stay late.
Assist patients and visitors
Ensure all windows, drapes, and blinds are shut
Elevate and cover equipment to protect from leaks or flooding
Medical Staff
Check in and follow directions from the Medical Care Branch Director as required.
RECOVERY: (As determined by the Incident Commander).
